Day 5 of 10 Days of Prayer 2020
Day 5 of 10 Days of Prayer 2020
By: Kelly Michalczyk
Paul says in Acts 17:28 that “In him we live and move and have our being.”
God is with us. He loves us. He helps us. He shows us things. He is listening to us. He is talking to us. He surrounds us. Are we aware of God in our everyday lives? Do we invite Him in on our comings and goings? Are we entering 2020 with a sense of His Presence?
Romans 12 in verses 1 and 2 in The Message version says,
So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.
God is with you. Invite Him into “your everyday, ordinary life – your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life”. Be mindful of His ever-present companionship.
Brother Lawrence once said, “My set times for payer are exactly like the rest of the day to me. They are but a continuation of the same exercise of being in God’s presence.”
J.P. de Caussade reminds us, “The practice [of God’s presence] is so simple, so easy and so accessible that it need only be wished for to be had.”
I would encourage us to remember that we are able to live like this with “God helping.” And “the best thing” we can “do for him” is “embrace what God does for us.” It is only by “fixing our attention on God” that we will experience the best versions of ourselves. God will develop us. God will mature us. God will bring out the best of us.
Let’s pray together.
